One might wonder why the god of the bible decided that it was not going too well, and that frequent slaughter of city folk, whether it was the Jews or the ones that the Jews were fighting, needed a change. But as history is described, it was decided to change the character of god to the way of love and forgiveness. This 180 degree turnabout was made for the convenience of the people so they could accept their circumstances. They never understood god as the totality of everything so God's attributes could change. Now you can see that the bible was written by people, the words they chose no more important than the ones we choose.

Will the Real God Reveal ITself...
I believe that contributing to the Western concept of the anthropomorphic view of God was the biblical statement that people were created in the image, the likeness, of God. Therefore, people have thought that God is like a person with literally a head, spine, so an anatomical reflection like the Greek and Roman gods or as depicted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. In the East, the concept of God from Taoism and Buddhism is more akin to my own of the total energy flow present. The Western interpretation arose out of ancient people's limited ability to know all of creation, including the billions of galaxies, trillions of stars as a part of God's mind, mind being the total energy flow within a living being. People are like God in that we have a mind, too, but God's conscious mind is IT's creations (Paradox 6). The God of this side of the planet is the same as the one on the other side, and the God of this part of the solar system is the same as in all other parts of this galaxy. So when Western people chose to model God after themselves, they did not know the extent of existence, which confined their view of God as something they could relate to. Now that we know the complexities of all that exists, we can expand our concept of God to also be inclusive of everything and leave the anthropomorphic image behind.
