There has always been those who have been attracted to the unseen aspects of life. Those people may have been born with an inquiring mind, or an innate feeling which draws them toward God and religion, or they might be first introduced to subtle energies from an experience that told them there is more to life than what is seen in the material world. These are the people searching for answers to the many whys of human existence. It's the seen vs. the unseen; some are interested and drawn more to one side than the other. However, the personal experience of the energies of the spiritual world can only be accessed through the unseen world.
In simpler cultures, it was never difficult to set aside some time to separate oneself from the material world and search for answers. But in this fast paced modern era, ushered in by advances in technology within the digital age, the primary focus has been to maintain one's presence on the physical level. In technologically advanced cultures, it's never been more difficult to maintain oneself financially so that is the emphasis for most people. There are few refuges in the Western society where one can devote the energy to investigate the unseen.
Let those with an inborn yearning to experience the spiritual energies unfold in their own time and place, not under the direction of other distracting forces. That is why so many in ashrams/monasteries and the like fail to achieve progress in fusing their conscious and unconscious minds- those institutions do not allow the necessary freedom to find the correct path to become whole once again.
